CAR INSURANCE IN KENYA - COMPREHENSIVE vs THIRD PARTY INSURANCE
COMPREHENSIVE CAR INSURANCE IN KENYA
Comprehensive insurance is the highest level of cover a person can have if they take motor insurance. Comprehensive Insurance covers:
- Repair costs after damage to your vehicle from an accident and
- Damage that you are responsible for to someone else's property or vehicle.
- Medical costs due to accidents caused by car
THIRD PARTY INSURANCE
This is a car insurance policy purchased for protection against the actions of another party. Third-party insurance is purchased by the insured (first party) from an insurance company (second party) for protection against another party's claims (third party).
All Kenyan drivers are required to have as a minimum third party insurance as adequate insurance coverage to ensure that damages resulting from an accident can be paid for.
EXCESS - This is the amount you pay to the insurance company again to claim from insurance
For instance if you have a car worth KES1,000,000 you paid insurance of around KES50,000.00. If you are involved in an accident whether you are to blame for the accident or not you will pay the insurance company again a sum of KES25,000. This amount paid to the insurance company again is called Excess.
